Zach and Jeremy

Dear Zach and Jeremy,

This is to somehow try and say thanks for what you both are doing, Jeremy already in US Navy planes over the Mideast, and Zach about to be deployed as a US Marine to Iraq. You both have been transformed in the past months as you have trained, and what lies before you will change you. You will never be the same again. You are now soldiers of the United States of America, and you are voluntarily going into the “valley of the shadow of death” to serve your nation and for the freedom and liberty of all people.

People like us cannot understand fully what motivates and inspires you to your calling. We enjoy our freedom, our families, our peace, and prosperity while you are out there somewhere laying your life on the line so that we can. We abhor violence and bloodshed, while knowing deep in our hearts, that someone has to be willing to stand against the violent evil in the world with the violence of the just and right.

In the past hundred years the American soldier has traveled by sea and air to the far flung reaches of the globe. They have fought with bravery, honor, and sacrifice, not for conquest or territory, but for freedom and what is right. They have tried to protect innocent life while battling the forces of tyrants, genocidal despots, and other combatants who knew no mercy, or moral code.

We don’t have the words to express how proud and thankful we are for you both. The best that we can do is to offer up this prayer for you every day: may the Lord bless you and keep you, may His face shine upon you, may His angels surround you and uphold you in all your ways. May your hearts be strong and courageous in battle, and tender before your Creator, with full assurance of His divine protection and love. May you, by His grace, be among those who return, whole and well, to build homes and families in this land of the free and home of the brave.
